New York Liberty WNBA – Face Painting Gallery

#StandforLiberty #transformationsny

This season the Liberty, New York’s WNBA team, has returned home to play in Madison Square Garden. Transformations Facepainting was part of their opening home game Fan Fest on 7th Avenue at MSG on Saturday May 17. Here’s some photos from the event, plus a few from last year’s Liberty events.

Canceled due to Penguins — a new one

This is a first for me, to be canceled due to a penguin incident.

I was hired to paint 20 dancers in blue, white and silver face paint for an event in lower Manhattan yesterday, as part of some sort of promotional event for Sea World.

something along these lines

a sample face design

The booking called for me to paint them at a setup site and then they’d go perform at a nearby location, which was all I knew about the event. Got a call at 9am that the event was canceling due to problems with the venue – then a call saying it might still be on. Then at around 12, Lorraine heard from the client that is was canceled for sure.

She was out and about at the time, and soon heard a report on 1010WINS explaining it, saying that an event at a restaurant was canceled due to protests over Sea World using penguins in the event. And, she told me, protestors were going to wait for the event and picket it, but decided not to because penguins don’t like flash bulbs — which made me think of King Kong, and there will be a rampaging penguin face coming in the near future.

From an article on dnainfo.com by Danielle Tcholakian on January 14, 2014 12:54pm:

“Meatpacking District hotspot Bagatelle has canceled a SeaWorld party scheduled for Tuesday night — after an announcement that the bash would include two live penguins sparked an outcry from animal rights activists. Bagatelle’s co-owner Remi Laba told DNAinfo Tuesday morning that the high-end restaurant had canceled the party Monday evening, shortly after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced plans to protest outside.“ – the full article includes statements from the restaurant, PETA and Sea World.

I like penguins:

New York Knicks — Basketball Face and Body Painting Gallery

TransformationsFaceGrid_KNICKS_agostinoarts

Knicks_FaceOnWebsite_Screen shot 2013-05-01 at 11.08.59 PM-cropThe New York Knicks went to the NBA playoffs in 2013 and our Transformations artists were part of a number of special playoff events, including body painting 5 fans for the #CrazyNYK Fan Race to Times Square and painting the public for special Knicks events at Chase Bank locations around NYC. basketballKnicks_sketches1_130501I watched a game using the dvr pause button to sketch shots and dunks to explore face designs with players in action, to add to the stadium style faces we paint for sports events with big logos and team colors. I also adapted the NY skyline design I do for one real Crazy Fan who showed up in head-to-toe Knicks regalia, and he wound up as the poster child for the events on the Knicks website.

NY Knicks Crazy Fan Face Gallery:

After the first few events where we painted faces for Crazy Fan contests, we got a call asking if we could body paint 5 fan contestants for a race from Madison Square Garden to Times Square to win playoff tickets. In addition to my photos here there is a slideshow the Knicks posted with photos from the full process.
